Redbud Ride Had A Different Season
Soggy remnants from Hurricane Delta swept into Southeastern Kentucky Saturday morning, dampening the turnout for the 2020 Redbud Ride by about half. Still, more than 400 cyclists braved the elements to ride from 26 to 100 miles through Laurel, Jackson and Rockcastle counties.
The tropical moisture had one ancillary benefit. It created wispy fog that rolled along the hills and valleys, providing contrast for the brilliant fall colors reaching their peak.
Cyclists spoke highly of the ride setup, the SAG support and the volunteers who manned eight rest stops along the routes. Even notorious Tussey Hill got its share of positive comments for the challenge it presented, along with a few utterings mumbled under halting breaths.
The 2020 Redbud Ride was moved from April to October due to the Covid pandemic, then faced hurricane remnants, but still showed why London is the Cycling Capital of Kentucky.
Several cyclists enjoyed a new perspective of the Redbud Ride with a nice new scenery of the fall colors during the ride. Next year’s Redbud Ride is already in the planning stages, hosted by London Downtown. The date is set for April 17th, 2021, registration opening will be announced soon.
